Malebria - Alpha - v0.3.4
Malebria Alpha v0.3.4 is now live. This update contains all of the changes from the devlog for v0.3.3 and more. There were many small changes that I decided to make to augment the new wave system, altogether providing for a rather large shift in gameplay. The general idea behind this update was to improve the quality of life of the player in addition to providing the new wave system for spawning enemies. In doing so, I decided to add a new enemy type as well, the "Runt". Because of the fact that more enemies spawn per room, the values of enemies have been reduced so that the player does not have too many more soul fragments than would be typical. The more specific details of this update are below:
- Implemented a system that allows enemies to spawn in waves.
- Rewrote the spawn sequences for every single room.
- Reduced the value of individual enemies (they drop fewer soul fragments).
- Boss "Gauvain" now spawns adds to help him fight.
- Added new Enemy type "Runt".
- Added character descriptions in the character selection.
- Player now glows slightly to help identify the player among visual chaos.
- Boss now glows to help identify the boss among his adds.
- Added a wave counter to help players track their progress within a room.
- Added title cards for special rooms like elite or boss rooms.
- Fixed player seeming to receive damage upon continuing from or loading a save.
- Fixed issue with enemy attack charge indicators.
- Fixed metaprogression not saving correctly or loading in when abandoning a run.
- Fixed multiple sources of game crashes.
The next update, v0.3.5, will largely be focused on improving the ability of the elites and boss to provide engaging and difficult encounters (making them more of a challenge). Another large facet of v0.3.5 will likely be improvements to the efficiency of the code of the game. It's harder to say for certain that I will be able to deliver on the latter, but I think it is important that the game run smoothly on all manner of computers. Lastly, there may be some visual improvements to some of the art, but whether or not that comes with v0.3.5 depends on how long the first two items take. So, there is a decent chance that that last bit will have to wait until a later version.
