Malebria - Alpha - v0.4.0 - The Sullen Plains Update


Malebria Alpha v0.4.0 is live at last! This is the largest content update I have made for this game yet. This adds an entire new region of content.  A new environment called the Sullen Plains, 4 new enemies, new performance options, and many, many fixes. I know this update took extremely long to come to fruition, and it is still not entirely finished, as I have yet to add in the upgrade rooms, elites, and the boss for the Sullen Plains region. I was hoping to shorten the delay between updates since my last devlog, but that has proven to be infeasible, so I will not promise any dates, but rather expected release windows. I expect to finish incorporating the remaining content for the Sullen Plains update some time during April. I have added a number of systems to make adding content easier and quicker in the future, but like I said previously, I don't want to set any expectation that I will be regularly dropping updates. I wish I could, trust me, but I have to contend with college and a job, so I will do what I can :) There are many changes I did not mention in this blurb, so if you want to see, the full changelog is below:


  • Made several general improvements:
    • Fixed active FPS adjustment to no longer cause massive game speed changes when FPS drops or increases rapidly.
    • Improved efficiency for light emitters (Improved fps in rooms containing a large amount of lights).
    • Added an option for the level of detail of lights to improve performance in the Sullen Plains (VERY IMPORTANT FOR LOW PERFORMANCE PCS).
    • Removed shaders from soul frags/other currency, reducing frame drops when enemies die.
    • Added a shader for when the player is underneath cover like trees or high walls which makes the cover semi-transparent.
    • Camera now reduces in size when entering rooms too small for the normal camera dimensions.


  • Added the enemies of the Sullen Plains:
    • Added the Magma Construct enemy.
    • Added the Flaming Knight enemy.
    • Added the Lost Soul enemy.
    • Added the Volitan’s Priest Initiate enemy.
    • (The Elites and Boss for this region are coming soon in further updates, shortly after the upgrade rooms, which will be coming in the next update.)


  • Improved the liveliness of the enemy AI and made fixes or improvements to enemies:
    • Fixed the fight against Gauvain. He charges the player like normally now, and an issue where adds were not spawning during the fight has been remedied.
    • Fixed an issue with the Frigid Sorcerer shooting projectiles with much larger variance in angle than typical.
    • Fixed enemies’ state 1 & 0 durations often being synced.
    • Removed a feature where enemies would completely stop tracking the player after attacking.
    • Enemies now get stunned momentarily after being hit.


  • Added the rooms of the Sullen Plains:
    • Added 16 new standard combat rooms for the Sullen Plains.
    • Slightly increased the number of rooms that must be completed per region to progress.

As mentioned in the changelog, the next update, v0.4.1, will contain the upgrade rooms for the Sullen Plains, and I will be working towards incorporating an additional character while I am finishing up the Sullen Plains. All of the basic content updates for the Sullen Plains will likely be completed some time in April, like I said above.
